A large obelisk stands atop the hill, and the visitor’s center highlights the achievement of flight. The combination of tall sand dunes, consistent wind, and wide-open spaces was the perfect recipe for the Ohio natives to conduct the first successful flight. This marvelous monument pays tribute to the site where Orville and Wilbur Wright’s dream of flying came true in 1903. The Wright Brothers National Memorial is the top attraction in the area aside from the beach. Riptides in the Outer Banks can become dangerous, so be on the lookout and stay safe!
